FlightPower EVO-TX LiPo — Review 27Jun08

Posted by tanker in General Heli, Products, Transmitters.

I love my Spektrum DX7 transmitter but I am lucky if the battery that came with it lasts even a day at the field. This would not be so bad if you could charge it quickly but the trickle charger takes 24-48 hours to bring the battery back up to around 11.1v. What is worse is that the spare batteries I bought hold a charge for even less time than the original battery.

Well along comes the FlightPower EVO-TX 1500 3S 11.1v LiPo. It is a standard 3S LiPo battery designed to fit in your transmitter. They make one for Spektrum and one for Futaba transmitters. The Spektrum pack not only fits perfectly in the DX7 transmitter but comes with the mini connector, balance tab, and even a male mini connector pig tail for easy charging.

I do not know how long the FlightPower EVO-TX 1500 battery lasts, but I have been flying for weeks with it on my original charge. The higher voltage will not harm the DX7, but if you are worried about that you could always just not charge it to the full 4.2v per cell. Even on a lower charge it will last a lot longer than the native NiMh battery and you can charge it with your regular LiPo charger and balancer.

So if you are tired of running out of juice in your transmitter pick up one of these packs. Recommended.
